Learn about lens hoods and the benefits of wearing one on your lens...

What is a lens hood

A lens hood is a device that attaches to the front of your camera lens. One benefit of a lens hood is that it blocks unwanted light from entering your lens at extreme angles which can cause lens flare. Another benefit of lens hoods is that it will protect your lens if you accidentally cause impact on your lens such as bumping it into something or accidentally dropping it, given it hasn't dropped from a high level. This is why many photographers like to use their lens hoods indoors as well.

Lens hoods also come in various shapes and sizes such as petal-shaped (tulip) and cylindrical or conical shapes.
